Το Death Note είναι ένα anime βασιμένο στο ομώνυμο manga των Tsugumi Ohba και Takeshi Obata. Στο Death Note, ο νεαρός και πανέξυπνος μαθητής Light Yagami, βρίσκει ένα τετράδιο που έπεσε από τον ουρανό στην αυλή του σχολείου του. Αυτό το τετράδιο έχει την ικανότητα να σκοτώνει οποιουδήποτε το όνομα γραφτεί στις σελίδες του, είτε προκαλώντας του καρδιακή προσβολή είτε με τον τρόπο που θα αποφασίσει ο κάτοχός του. Όμως υπάρχουν διάφοροι κανόνες γραμμένοι στις πρώτες σελίδες του, κανόνες που πρέπει να τηρούνται κατά γράμμα ώστε να επιτελέσει τον σκοπό του.

Το Death Note το έριξε στον «ανθρώπινο κόσμο» ένας shinigami, δηλαδή ένας Death God, o οποίος ακολουθεί παντού τον Light, χωρίς να μπορεί να τον δει κανένας άλλος. Ο Light αποφασίζει να το χρησιμοποιήσει, ώστε να σκοτώσει και να «καθαρίσει» τον κόσμο από τους κακοποιούς που ασελγούν πάνω στην καθημερινότητα όλων των ανθρώπων ξεκινώντας από κρατούμενους σε όλο τον κόσμο. Όταν όμως η γιαπωνέζικη αστυνομία, σε συνεργασία με το FBI, αρχίζει να ασχολείται με την υπόθεση, τα πράγματα περιπλέκονται… Και γίνονται ακόμη πιο δύσκολα για τον Light, όταν προσλαμβάνει τον ιδιοφυή και εκκεντρικό ντετέκτιβ L προκειμένου να ανακαλύψει ποιος βρίσκεται πίσω από τις δολοφονίες.

Δύο ιδιοφυή μυαλά έρχονται αντιμέτωπα σε ένα παιχνίδι τακτικής, γεμάτο ανατροπές, πάνω σε ένα εκπληκτικό σενάριο πλαισιωμένο απο εξίσου φοβερή σκηνοθεσία…

Τα ερωτήματα που θέτει δε, ιδιαίτερα σημαντικά:

– Μπορεί ένας άνθρωπος διαχειριστεί μια τόσο μεγάλη δύναμη;
– Να θέλει να γίνει ένας μικρός Θεός του κόσμου μας;
– Έχει δικαίωμα κάποιος να σκοτώσει έναν εγκληματία, ότι κακό και αν έχει προκαλέσει αυτός;
και πολλά άλλα που δημιουργούνται στην πορεία…

Η σειρά έκανε πρεμιέρα στις 3 Οκτωβρίου 2006.
Τώρα πια έχει ολοκληρωθεί με 37 επεισόδια.
